Frigidaire Ice Maker Not Working: Fill Valve First, Then the Frozen Tube, Then the Module
Frigidaire ice makers stop over water delivery more than mechanism: weeping fill valves, frozen fill tubes, starved flow. The check order that works.

From the mid-rises near City Center station to the newer houses around Martha Lake, Lynnwood kitchens run every kind of ice maker. We are 6–8 minutes away, carry the usual valves and modules, and quote in writing first.
Lynnwood has more renters and stacked homes than most of its neighbors. The Census survey counts only about 45% of housing as detached houses, with around one unit in five sitting in a building of twenty or more apartments. That changes how an ice maker call goes. In a fourth-floor unit near the convention center, the refrigerator's water comes off a building riser with a shutoff you may never have seen, the fridge belongs to the owner, and the person who noticed the empty bin is the tenant. We are used to all three parties and keep the paperwork simple: one diagnosis, one written price, one repair. Edmonds College and CWU-Lynnwood add student rentals to the mix, where a refrigerator can pass through several tenants without anyone changing its filter.
The houses tell a different story. Roughly 40% of Lynnwood's homes went up between 1960 and 1979, while Martha Lake and North Lynnwood filled in later, with more than half their homes built after 2000. Those newer kitchens got French-door and side-by-side refrigerators with door dispensers as standard, and many of those originals are now old enough that the ice maker module, the fill valve and the dispenser parts start failing one after another.
Apartment and condo work has grown with the city. Buildings near the convention center have gone up since 2015, and the City Center Link station that opened in August 2024 is pulling more mid-rise housing toward 196th Street and 44th Avenue. In a stacked building, a leaking fill valve is rarely a private problem, since the water finds the unit below before it finds you. When we replace a valve or line in a condo, we run a full fill cycle and check the floor behind the refrigerator dry before we push it back. Some complexes around Alderwood Mall, open since 1979, are older buildings where the shutoff behind the refrigerator may be stiff with age, so we test it before we rely on it.
Heat is the other Lynnwood pattern. During the June 2021 heat dome, an unofficial afternoon reading of 109°F was reported in the city. Top-floor units and west-facing kitchens bake on days like that, the refrigerator's condenser underneath can barely shed heat, and ice output is the first thing to suffer. A good share of our summer calls here turn out to be a warm freezer, a dusty coil or a tired condenser fan rather than a broken ice maker. On an upper floor, keep a thermometer in the freezer during a hot spell; once it climbs past about 10°F, the ice maker slows down no matter how healthy it is.
Out in Martha Lake, Alderwood Manor and the North Lynnwood streets, water comes from the City of Lynnwood or straight from the Alderwood Water & Wastewater District. Both deliver Everett water at about 12.5 ppm, so the wear we see is electrical and mechanical rather than mineral. Alderwood Manor began as a poultry-farm colony on five- and ten-acre lots, and older houses there that have been remodeled more than once can have a long, patched supply run to the refrigerator, so we trace those lines end to end.

In a rental, the owner usually wants a number before anyone touches the refrigerator, and that is how we work anyway. Ice maker repair in Lynnwood starts at $295. The module, the mold and its heater come as one assembly, so a failed unit is replaced whole, and the fill valve that feeds it is the other common job. That is an entry price for this area, not a quote for your unit. The $85 diagnostic tells us which part failed and why, the written estimate shows the owner the exact amount before anything is approved, and once that repair is approved the diagnostic is part of it. If we check a second appliance on the same visit, its diagnostic is $10 less.

For a landlord, the math is about the whole refrigerator, not the ice maker. A builder-grade fridge in an apartment near City Center that cools well and needs only a module or a valve is a clear repair, since a new unit means delivery, haul-away and a day without a working kitchen for the tenant. In the houses around Martha Lake and Alderwood Manor, where many French-door originals from the 2000s are still running, we look at what else is wearing. A dispenser with a cracked auger housing, a door ice compartment that frosts shut, and a module all failing within a year or two on a fridge past fifteen years is the point where replacement deserves a serious look. If the freezer holds temperature and only the ice side has failed, repair still costs far less than any new refrigerator with a dispenser.
Yes. Tenants often book with us directly. We diagnose the refrigerator, write up the price and can phone your property manager or owner with that estimate so they can approve it. The model number from the label inside the fresh-food section, given when you book, lets us load the right valve or module and keeps the visit short for everyone.
Two things happen when a riser is drained and refilled. Air gets into the line, so the valve sputters and underfills the tray, and loosened grit can lodge on the small screen inside the valve's inlet. Sometimes the tray freezes half full and jams the ejector. Running the dispenser for a few minutes clears air; if the tray is still dry later, the screen or valve needs attention.
We do. Alderwood Manor is roughly 10–13 minutes from the shop and Martha Lake about 11–14, off-peak, and there is no distance charge for either. A morning call, Monday to Saturday, normally means a same-day visit, and the newer French-door refrigerators common in those neighborhoods use parts we carry on the van.
Probably not. An ice maker only cycles when its mold reaches harvest temperature, so a freezer drifting from 0°F to 10°F slows production long before anything breaks. Hot kitchens, dust on the condenser underneath and a weak condenser fan are the usual reasons. A thermometer in the freezer tells you a lot, and we check the cooling side before blaming the ice maker.
Once the freezer is at temperature, the first harvest usually drops within a few hours, and a full bin takes about a day. Throw out the first batch or two after a new valve or line, because they can taste of the new parts. If the ice maker was off for a while, give the freezer time to recover before judging the output.
