Frigidaire Ice Maker Not Working: Fill Valve First, Then the Frozen Tube, Then the Module
Frigidaire ice makers stop over water delivery more than mechanism: weeping fill valves, frozen fill tubes, starved flow. The check order that works.

We work Seattle's north end, from Northgate and Lake City to Greenwood, Broadview and Ballard. Post-war houses, settling floors and hot top-floor apartments each give ice makers their own trouble, and every fix is priced in writing first.
Much of north Seattle was not Seattle until 1954, when the northern city limit moved from 85th up to 145th, absorbing Lake City, the Greenwood blocks north of 85th and the neighborhoods between. Northgate Mall had opened four years earlier, a center widely billed as the nation's first covered shopping mall. The houses from that era, small post-war homes across Lake City, Maple Leaf, Haller Lake and Broadview, were built with kitchens that never expected a water line. Ice makers came later, along with remodels, retrofitted tubing and shutoffs in odd places. Thornton Creek runs through several of these neighborhoods, and on low, damp lots a crawl-space line and its fittings tend to age faster, so we check the run under the kitchen before blaming the valve.
Greenwood adds a twist we do not see anywhere else in our area. Parts of it were built over a former peat bog, which makes buildings settle, and the city has treated peat bogs as Environmentally Critical Areas since 2008. A settling floor tilts the refrigerator. An ice maker mold is a shallow tray that has to sit level to fill evenly, so a tilted cabinet produces cubes that are thick at one end and thin at the other, water that spills over the mold, and doors that no longer swing shut. Leveling is part of every north Seattle ice diagnosis we do.
Settling is not only a Greenwood issue. Older houses in Lake City, Maple Leaf and Wedgwood often have floors that have moved a little over seventy years, and a heavy French-door refrigerator on a sloping floor shows it in the ice. We check the cabinet for level in both directions on every ice call, adjust the legs or rollers, and make sure the doors close on their own. Sometimes that alone brings back even, full cubes, and we tell you so rather than selling a part. If a door that used to swing shut by itself now stays ajar, deal with it before the ice changes: a door open a crack frosts the ice maker and the evaporator behind it.
Heat is the other north Seattle story. Sea-Tac's all-time record, 108°F, came on June 28, 2021, and in 2019 only about 44% of homes in the Seattle area had any air conditioning. The apartment wave in Ballard since 2007, and the newer buildings around Northgate's Link station, opened in October 2021, put a lot of refrigerators in top-floor kitchens that bake on summer afternoons. Ballard, a separate city from 1889 to 1907, mixes those new buildings with older houses near the Locks and Golden Gardens. On those days a freezer struggles to reach the temperature an ice maker needs to harvest, and the fix is usually on the cooling side. Power here comes from Seattle City Light; after an outage, some ice makers need a manual reset.
Homes above Green Lake mostly get Tolt River water from SPU. A February 2026 test found 1.22 gpg leaving the treatment plant and 1.36 out in the pipes, which is very soft. Off-peak, Northgate is 13–17 minutes from the shop, Lake City and Greenwood a few minutes more, and Ballard 24–30; none of them carries a distance surcharge. Lake City Way, Aurora Avenue and I-5 are our usual routes in, and the Thornton Creek ravines mean some streets are reached the long way around. Nathan Hale High School, North Seattle College and the Kraken's practice facility at Northgate are landmarks along the way.

The most common jobs on north Seattle ice calls are the fill valve and the complete ice maker assembly, and ice maker repair in the city starts at $295. That is an entry price for our area, not a quote for your refrigerator, and some models land above it. The $85 diagnostic tells us what failed, a written estimate gives the exact price, and approving it means the diagnostic is included rather than added. If all your refrigerator needed was leveling and a door adjustment, we say so plainly before anything else is discussed. Settled floors sometimes go beyond what leveling legs can correct; if the floor itself needs shimming, we tell you rather than fight it.

Kitchens in north Seattle's post-war houses are often tight, and a remodel usually fitted one specific refrigerator into the space between cabinets. Finding a new model for that exact opening, with the same door swing, can be harder than fixing the one you have. So as long as the freezer still reaches about 0°F and the compressor sounds normal, repairing the valve or ice maker is the better choice at almost any age. Replacement becomes reasonable when the refrigerator is past about fifteen years and the ice problem is joined by cooling trouble, a failing control board or a cracked liner. In apartments, the owner decides, and repair is usually faster than arranging delivery up several flights of stairs. For built-ins in remodeled houses around Greenwood and Wedgwood, repair is almost always the answer.
It can affect it a lot. The ice mold is a shallow tray, and when the refrigerator tilts, water runs to one end, overfills it and spills, while the other end barely fills. Spilled water can freeze the ejector or form a sheet in the bin. Leveling the cabinet and checking the door alignment often fixes the cube shape on its own.
Yes. We cover north Seattle broadly: Maple Leaf, Pinehurst, Haller Lake, Bitter Lake, Broadview, Wedgwood and Ballard, along with Northgate, Lake City and Greenwood. Ballard is our longest run at about 24–30 minutes off-peak, and there is no distance surcharge for any of them.
No. North Seattle's Tolt water is very soft, around 1.2 to 1.4 grains per gallon. Household ice makers freeze the mold quickly from all sides, which traps air in the center of each cube; that air is what looks cloudy. Bad taste or odor is a different matter, typically a filter past its date or cubes left too long in the bin.
Tell us about parking, the building entry and which floor you are on, and, if possible, the model number from the label. If the building manager needs to approve the work, we write the estimate so it can be shared. We stock the usual valves and ice maker modules on the van, which lets most apartment repairs wrap up on the first trip.
Same-day visits are the norm when your call or online booking comes in during the morning, any day Monday to Saturday, and every technician on our team can take the job. Northgate is the closest point, about 13–17 minutes away off-peak, though I-5 at rush hour can stretch that.
