Refrigerators in Woodinville homes, shops and apartments
About 81% of Woodinville's homes went up after 1980, and the larger ones from the 1990s and 2000s are where we find built-in refrigerators most often. Many full-size built-ins use separate cooling systems for the refrigerator and freezer sections, so one column can fail while the other runs perfectly. That is useful for diagnosis and a little alarming for owners, but it usually points to a fan or a defrost problem on one side rather than anything catastrophic. The condenser on these units sits behind the top grille, and cleaning it is the first step on every built-in call. Second fridges in bars and pantries are often tucked under counters or into tight cabinets, so we check their ventilation as well.
Freezers in detached shops and barns are their own category. Woodinville can get real snow, including 6.5 inches from a single convergence-zone band on April 18, 2008, and an unheated outbuilding can drop well below the temperature many freezers are designed for. Some will keep running; others shut down their compressor because the cabinet thermostat sees no reason to cool, and then warm up as the building recovers. Summer heat in a closed shop is the opposite problem. Before buying a freezer for an outbuilding, check the manual for its rated room-temperature range, and leave space for the coil to breathe.
Downtown has changed too. About a quarter of Woodinville's homes now sit in buildings of fifty units or more, mostly downtown apartments, and those units carry newer, electronic fridges that we diagnose through their service menus before opening any panel. Managers can book several units at once, and each one gets its own estimate. Power comes from Puget Sound Energy, which had more than 400,000 customers out during the November 2024 windstorm, and we still see board and relay faults that trace back to hard restarts after outages. The Woodinville Water District buys Seattle's Tolt water, which is soft, so scale is rarely a factor in valve or dispenser trouble. If your home happens to be on a private well, as some rural properties are, we check the valve screen for grit before anything else.
