With roughly 130 wineries and tasting rooms in and around town, Woodinville is a place where people entertain at home, and their dishwashers work accordingly. The calls we take here lean toward glass: wine stems turning cloudy, chips and shards that end up in the sump, and machines run hard after a big dinner and then left idle for days. Add the large kitchens of the newer houses, some with a second dishwasher or a drawer unit, and you get a fairly distinct pattern of repairs. Calls also arrive in clusters around the holidays and summer gatherings, when a machine that has limped along quietly gives out on the third load of the evening.

The housing is young. Census estimates put 44% of local homes in this century and 37% more in the 1980s and 90s, so most machines are second-generation Bosch, KitchenAid, Miele or GE units rather than originals, and most were chosen by owners who cared about how they treat glass. Downtown, roughly one home in four is in a building of 50 or more units, with compact kitchens and standard builder machines. We stock the van for both: stemware and premium-model issues out on the larger lots, drain pumps and latches in the apartments near the town center.

Glassware, big kitchens and soft Tolt water

Broken glass is the most Woodinville-specific problem we meet. A stem that snaps mid-cycle sheds slivers that wash down past the filter or sit on it until the drain pump draws them in. The first sign is a grinding or crunching sound when the machine drains, followed by a drain error or standing water. Do not run it again once you hear that noise. Switch off the breaker and call us; clearing the shard early can save the pump, while running it chips the impeller and turns a cleaning job into a part replacement.

Etching is the other glass issue, and the water explains why. Seattle's supply map places the local water district on the Tolt system, which tested at about 1.2 to 1.4 grains per gallon in 2026, and the district's own figure was not available to us. Water that soft gives detergent nothing to react with, so the excess slowly attacks glass, especially in hot cycles. Hand-washing heirloom crystal is wise; for everyday stems, use a glass or delicate cycle, measure the detergent and keep rinse aid filled.

Some of the larger houses on bigger lots have two dishwashers, one of which sits idle for long stretches. Idle machines develop smells, sticky check valves and drying door seals. Running a short cycle every week or so keeps them in working order and is the cheapest care there is. Downtown apartment dishwashers have the opposite problem: they run daily in small kitchens, and their latches and drain pumps wear on the same schedule as any heavily used builder machine. If you rent there, the building owner normally approves the repair, and our written price makes that easy to pass along.

Woodinville dishwasher repair starting prices

Woodinville dishwasher repair starts at $255. Broken glass reaching the drain pump is the job we see most here, and if we catch it early, clearing the debris may be all that is needed; machines that no longer dry usually point to the heating element. Rack clips and rinse aid dispensers go into the same written quote. The opening figure is an entry point for the area, not a quote for your model, and premium brands tend to sit higher. After the $85 diagnostic you get the exact price in writing and decide before any part is ordered.

Repair or replace a Woodinville dishwasher

Most Woodinville machines are young enough that repair is the sensible default. A pump damaged by glass, a failed heater or a worn latch on a five- to ten-year-old Bosch, KitchenAid or Miele is well worth fixing, since tubs and motors on those models last. Replacement makes sense mainly in two cases: a machine past twelve or fifteen years that needs a board and a pump together, or one with a rusting tub. For a second dishwasher that sees light use, a modest repair almost always beats replacing it. And if you are choosing a new machine for an entertaining kitchen, look at rack design and stemware holders as closely as the spec sheet; many glass problems start with how stems are held. Premium parts are ordered by model and serial number, so having the numbers from the tag ready when you call speeds things up. We give you the repair price and our view of the machine's condition so you can decide.

Common questions

My dishwasher grinds when it drains. Can I keep using it?

Better not. Grinding usually means glass or a hard object is caught in the drain pump or chopper. Each run can chip the impeller further. Turn off the dishwasher's breaker, remove and rinse the filter if it comes out easily, and call us. Early removal of the debris often saves the pump.

How do I protect my wine glasses in the dishwasher?

Use the glass or delicate cycle if your machine has one, load stems in the holders so they cannot touch, and cut the detergent to well under the full dose. On Woodinville's soft water a full pod is far more than needed. Keep rinse aid filled for spotting. Anything irreplaceable is safer washed by hand.

How far is Woodinville from your shop?

About 18–23 minutes off-peak from our Mountlake Terrace shop, by I-405 south and SR 522 east. Homes further out toward the 98077 area take a little longer. If you reach us in the morning, Monday through Saturday, we can usually come the same day.

Our second dishwasher barely gets used. Why does it smell?

Water left in the sump goes stale, and seals dry out when a machine sits. Run a short hot cycle every week or two, even with only a few items, and rinse the filter now and then. If the smell persists or it will not drain, the check valve or pump may be sticking, and we can test both.

Can you check the refrigerator on the same visit?

Yes. Kitchens that host a lot tend to work the fridge and its ice maker as hard as the dishwasher, so mention any trouble with them when booking. When a second appliance is looked at on the same visit, its diagnostic costs $10 less. Each one gets its own written price.
