Most visitors know Kenmore for the seaplanes at Kenmore Air Harbor, at the north tip of Lake Washington. The city itself only incorporated in 1998, but its neighborhoods are much older. Inglewood was platted in 1953 and Uplake Terrace a year later, and suburban building kept going through the 1960s, 70s and 80s; today about 28% of homes date from 1960 to 1979 and another 34% from 1980 to 1999. That gives us three kinds of kitchens: freestanding ranges in the post-war ramblers, wall ovens with separate cooktops in the 1980s and 90s houses on the hills, and compact electric ranges in the condo buildings, where roughly one home in eight sits in a building of twenty to forty-nine units.

And then there is the name. Kenmore appliances were sold by Sears but built by other manufacturers, and the first three digits of the model number tell us who made yours. A range whose model starts with 790, for example, was built by Frigidaire, so its parts come from that maker's catalog, while other Kenmore ranges were built by Whirlpool and other companies. Two Kenmore ranges of similar age can take completely different parts. Give us the full model number from the tag, usually inside the storage drawer or on the oven frame, when you call or book online, and we can check parts before arriving. A Kenmore range that came with a house bought in the 1990s may still be on its original igniter or elements, and those are near the end of their run.

Kenmore stove symptoms, decoded

  • Broil works, bake does nothing

    Likely cause
Open bake element, or a failed bake relay on the control
    What we do
Test the element first, then the relay output, and replace what failed
  • Coil burner only heats on high

    Likely cause
Burned contacts inside the infinite switch
    What we do
Replace the switch and check the wires at its terminals
  • Range went blank after a PSE outage

    Likely cause
Board damaged by a surge, or a tripped range breaker
    What we do
Check the breaker, then test the board's power supply
  • Oven runs 25 degrees or more off the setting

    Likely cause
Sensor drift or a lost calibration offset
    What we do
Verify with a thermometer test, reset the offset or replace the sensor
  • Gas oven lights with a loud whoosh

    Likely cause
    Weak igniter causing delayed ignition
    What we do
Stop using the oven; replace the igniter and inspect the burner
  • Fog or grease between the door glass panes

    Likely cause
Inner door seal failed or a spacer slipped
    What we do
Take the door apart, clean the panes and reassemble it

PSE power, hillside streets and condo kitchens

Kenmore is one of the cities where Puget Sound Energy supplies both electricity and natural gas, so one utility covers every range in town. That also means one utility's outage map. PSE reported more than 400,000 customers out during the November 2024 bomb cyclone, and the wooded hillsides around Arrowhead, the Moorlands and Linwood Heights are prone to falling limbs. When power returns in fits and starts, electronic range controls can lock up or fail. Try the range breaker off and on once; if the display does not recover, call us.

For gas, the same company handles leaks: if you smell gas, leave the house and call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 from outside, and do not try the burners first. About 47% of Kenmore homes heat with gas and 51% with electricity, so we carry igniters and spark switches alongside coil elements and infinite switches. In our experience the gas ranges cluster in the houses, while condo kitchens are almost always electric.

Condos along Bothell Way and in central Kenmore bring their own logistics: elevators, garages and tight kitchens where the range has to come straight out of a narrow opening. Tell us the building's entry details when you book. Our route runs SR 104 to SR 522, past Log Boom Park, and most of the city is twelve to fifteen minutes from the shop off-peak. Homes up the hill toward Saint Edward State Park, in Kenlake Vista and on Northshore Summit sit a few minutes farther out but on the same run.

Kenmore range repair starting prices

Range repair in Kenmore starts from $259. Bake and broil elements, coil or smoothtop elements, infinite switches and gas burners are the regular jobs, and a control board, the usual casualty after a bad outage, sits at the higher end. That figure marks where the category begins, not a quote. Because Kenmore-brand ranges were built by other manufacturers, we look up the components by model number before pricing the job. You get the exact price in writing once the $85 diagnostic is done, and that diagnostic is absorbed into the repair if you approve it.

Is your Kenmore-brand range worth repairing?

Because Kenmore ranges were built by major manufacturers, parts availability follows the real maker. A Frigidaire-built or Whirlpool-built Kenmore range from the last fifteen years usually has elements, sensors, igniters and switches readily available, and those repairs are almost always worth doing. Older Kenmore models can be harder, since some Sears-specific trim and control parts have been discontinued; we check by model number before quoting. Surge-damaged boards are the toughest call in Kenmore. If a board fails on a ten-year-old range, replacing it often makes sense; on a basic range past fifteen years, the board may cost a large share of a new one, and we will say so. In the condos, also think about delivery: moving a new range through a building can be harder than fixing the one already in place. Either way, the written price comes before any work, and it notes how easy parts are to get for your model.

Common questions

Where do I find the model number on a Kenmore range?

Open the storage drawer under the oven or the oven door and look along the frame for a sticker. Kenmore model numbers have a three-digit prefix, a dot and more digits; the prefix tells us which manufacturer built the range. Read us the whole number on the phone or enter it in the booking form, and we can look up parts before we arrive.

Do you also repair GE, LG and Samsung ranges in Kenmore?

Yes. We work on gas and electric ranges, wall ovens and cooktops from all the common brands, including GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, LG, Samsung, Bosch, KitchenAid and Maytag. Many repairs finish on the first visit because the usual elements, igniters, sensors and switches ride on the van. Uncommon parts are ordered, and we schedule the return trip with you.

My range stopped working after the power came back. Is it ruined?

Not necessarily. Switch the range breaker fully off, wait a minute and switch it on. Many controls recover. If the display stays blank or shows an error, the board or a thermal fuse may have taken the hit. We test the power supply and the board before recommending anything, and you get the price in writing first.

Who do I call first about a gas smell, PSE or you?

PSE, every time. Leave the house without lighting burners or flipping switches, and from outside call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911. In Kenmore PSE runs both the gas and the power, and they will make the line safe. Once the leak is cleared, call us to repair or adjust the range, its valves or its connection.

How soon can a technician get to Kenmore?

Kenmore is twelve to fifteen minutes from our shop off-peak, so a morning call on any day from Monday to Saturday normally means a visit that day. Bothell Way slows at commute times; if that puts us behind, we call to let you know. There is no distance surcharge for Kenmore.
