Mukilteo · Harbour Pointe to Old Town

Mukilteo wall oven and range repair, Harbour Pointe to the ferry

Harbour Pointe was built out through the 1980s and 90s, and many of its kitchens still have the wall oven and cooktop they came with. We repair those, plus the ranges in Old Town and Picnic Point, sixteen to thirty minutes from our shop.

Mukilteo incorporated in 1947 as a small waterfront town around the lighthouse and the ferry landing. Everything changed after Boeing opened its Everett plant beside Paine Field in 1967. Harbour Pointe, planned from 1978 and annexed on March 26, 1991, doubled the city, and by about 2000 it was essentially built out, with its golf course opening in 1989 and Kamiak High School in 1993. Close to half of all homes in Mukilteo date from 1980 to 1999, and another quarter from the years since.

The typical Harbour Pointe kitchen from that era has a separate cooktop, often gas on an island or peninsula, and a single or double wall oven set into cabinetry. At twenty-five to thirty-five years old, those ovens fail in recognizable ways: door locks that stick after self-clean, thermal fuses that open during it, relays on the control board that weld shut, and the cooling fans that keep electronics alive. Old Town and Olympus Terrace have older and more varied houses, and Picnic Point, just south, has a large share of 1960s and 70s homes with freestanding ranges. Many Harbour Pointe kitchens also kept their original ceramic-glass cooktops, whose radiant elements and infinite switches are now near the end of their service life.

Wall oven and cooktop failures we see in Mukilteo

  • Door locked after self-clean, display flashing

    Likely cause
Lock motor or lock switch failed in the cleaning heat
    What we do
Unlock the door by hand, then fit a new lock assembly
  • Wall oven completely dead after a self-clean

    Likely cause
Thermal fuse opened during the high-heat cycle
    What we do
Replace the fuse and find out why the oven overheated
  • Oven keeps heating after you press Cancel

    Likely cause
Relay on the control board welded closed
    What we do
Kill the power at the breaker; we replace the board
  • Ceramic cooktop element cycles off too soon

    Likely cause
Element limiter or a weak infinite switch
    What we do
Test both and replace whichever has failed
  • Gas cooktop flame lifts off the burner

    Likely cause
Misaligned cap, wrong orifice or a pressure issue
    What we do
Seat the cap, check the orifice and verify the flame
  • Oven light out though the bulb is new

    Likely cause
Failed socket or door light switch
    What we do
Replace the socket or switch and test it

Two drives, one city: Harbour Pointe, Old Town and Picnic Point

Mukilteo is two different trips from our shop. Harbour Pointe is sixteen to twenty minutes off-peak, up I-5 and along SR 525, the Mukilteo Speedway. Old Town, down by the 1906 lighthouse and the ferry terminal that opened in December 2020, takes twenty-four to thirty, and the waterfront streets can be slow when the busiest car ferry route in the state is loading. Picnic Point, unincorporated but inside the Mukilteo School District, sits closer, about fifteen to nineteen minutes away. Japanese Gulch and the Speedway corridor sit between the two, on the way down to the water. When you book, a rough address lets us give you a realistic arrival window.

About 53% of Mukilteo homes heat with PSE gas, and gas cooktops are common across Harbour Pointe. Electricity comes from Snohomish County PUD. If your kitchen ever smells of gas, leave the house and call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911 from the driveway or the street, not from inside. A gas cooktop over an electric wall oven is two separate repairs, so we test each on its own. Island cooktops are often set into counters with little room around them, so we bring what we need to lift the top and reach the valves without disconnecting more than necessary.

The city's water comes from Everett's Spada Lake supply through the Mukilteo district, and it is very soft, so mineral scale almost never plays a part in an oven repair here. What wears these ovens out is heat, and the hottest thing most of them ever do is a self-clean cycle. Wall ovens sit enclosed in cabinetry and rely on their cooling fans to carry that heat away, so a weak fan and a self-clean cycle are a bad combination.

Mukilteo oven repair, starting prices

Oven repair in Mukilteo starts at $259. Because so many Harbour Pointe ovens are electronic wall units, control work is common, and a range or wall oven control board is at the higher end of the category; gas oven igniters and bake or broil elements make up much of the rest. The figure shows where the category begins in our area and is not a quote for your oven. Once we have the model number, the exact figure goes into your written estimate after the $85 diagnostic, and that diagnostic is part of the repair price when you approve it.

A thirty-year-old wall oven: fix it or retire it?

Age alone does not decide it. A 1990s wall oven with a sound cavity and door is worth repairing when the failed part is a lock assembly, thermal fuse, element, sensor, igniter or fan, because those are moderate repairs and a new wall oven usually brings cabinet fitting with it. Boards are where age bites. Many controls from that era are discontinued, and when one is gone, replacement becomes the realistic path; we check availability before quoting. One habit helps older ovens last: avoid running self-clean right before a holiday or a big dinner, since the cycle's extreme heat is when tired fuses, locks and relays most often give out. Wipe spills by hand instead, or run self-clean a week or two ahead so there is time to fix anything it breaks. We also mention it when the cooktop above or beside the oven is showing its age, since some owners prefer to replace the pair together.

Common questions

Should I run self-clean before a holiday?

We suggest not. The self-clean cycle heats the oven far beyond normal baking, and on older wall ovens that is when locks, thermal fuses and control relays most often fail. If you want a clean oven for a big meal, run the cycle a week or two before, or clean spills by hand. Then any problem shows up while there is time to fix it.

How long does it take to reach Old Town Mukilteo?

About twenty-four to thirty minutes off-peak from our Mountlake Terrace shop, and sixteen to twenty to Harbour Pointe. Ferry traffic on the waterfront can add time. A morning call, Monday through Saturday, still usually means we arrive the same day, with no distance surcharge.

My oven will not turn off. What do I do?

Switch off the oven's breaker at the panel; that is the safe way to stop it. An oven that keeps heating after you cancel usually has a relay on the control board stuck closed. Leave the breaker off and book a visit. We test the board and replace it, and the written price comes before any work.

Is a gas smell around my cooktop something you handle?

Not at first. A gas smell is PSE's job: leave the house straight away with everyone, without lighting burners or touching switches, and once outside call PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911. After PSE has checked and cleared the leak, we can repair the cooktop, its valves or the connection, and we test each burner afterward.

Do you serve Picnic Point and Chennault Beach?

Yes. Picnic Point, Chennault Beach, Olympus Terrace, the Speedway corridor and the rest of Mukilteo are all on our route. Picnic Point is about fifteen to nineteen minutes from the shop off-peak. Enter the model number from the tag when you book, and we will try to bring the right part on the first trip.
